Concord Center, MA is the very first settlement in Massachusetts to be located away from tidal waters. The town was incorporated in 1635, and is located a mere 19 miles from Boston, and 13 miles from Lowell, MA. The town has population of roughly 17,000. The town has a rich history having Ralph Waldo Emerson as one of its most prominent citizens, him having moved into town in 1835. Both his father and grandfather were also from Concord Center.
There are some wonderful places to visit in Concord if you are in the area including Minute Man National Historical Park, which is situated along the path of battle of Lexington and Concord. Also worth a visit is Orchard House, where Louisa May Alcott wrote “Little Women”. This is the place where all the Alcott girls grew up. Concord Museum is a treasure trove of historical memorabilia, as well as collections from Thoreau. If you are a fan of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Nathaniel Hawthorne, then give The Old Manse a visit; this is the house which both of them called home.
